Krakow Airport (KRK) is located in Balice, around 15 kilometres west of Krakow city centre. After landing, most passengers have four realistic options for continuing their journey: train, taxi, app-based ride or pre-booked private transfer.

The right choice depends on your specific situation — not on which option sounds best in theory.

How to Get from Krakow Airport to Krakow City Centre

When is a private transfer worth booking in advance?

A pre-booked transfer is worth considering when:

  • arrival is late at night or during low-frequency transport hours
  • the passenger is not the one making the booking
  • you need confirmation in writing before the journey
  • the group size or luggage requires a specific vehicle type
  • a VAT invoice is required for company billing

For route pricing, see the Krakow Airport transfer price list

before requesting a confirmed quote.

How long does it take?

Most airport-to-city journeys take between 20 and 40 minutes depending on traffic, destination and time of day. The Old Town area and some hotel zones have access restrictions that can add a few minutes.

If you are connecting to a meeting, train or event, plan for the longer end of that range.

Option 4 — Private airport transfer

A private transfer is booked before the flight lands. The price, vehicle and pickup point are confirmed in advance, and the driver is ready when the passenger arrives.

This is the most structured option, and it suits situations where predictability matters:

  • business travellers arriving for meetings
  • families or groups with luggage
  • passengers arriving late at night or very early in the morning
  • guests who do not know Krakow and would benefit from being met inside the terminal
  • bookings made by an assistant, travel coordinator or hotel on behalf of the traveller

IQPD offers a private Krakow Airport transfer with fixed pricing, Meet & Greet and flight monitoring. The price is confirmed before pickup and does not change based on traffic.

Option 3 — App-based rides (Uber, Bolt)

App-based rides are widely used in Krakow and may be familiar to travellers arriving from other European cities.

They can be a good option if:

  • you have mobile data after landing
  • you know where the pickup zone is located
  • you are travelling alone or in a small group with limited luggage
  • you are booking for yourself and can manage the process after landing

The practical limitations are that pricing is demand-based and can change, pickup instructions may not be immediately clear at an unfamiliar terminal, and vehicle type cannot always be selected in advance. For passengers booking on behalf of someone else — a guest, colleague or family member — app-based rides are harder to control and confirm.

Option 2 — Taxi

Taxis are available at the designated rank outside the arrivals terminal. No app or advance booking is required.

A taxi is a practical choice when:

  • you want a direct, immediate ride with no prior planning
  • you are travelling alone or with one other person
  • your luggage is manageable
  • you are not on a strict schedule

The main variable is price. The final fare depends on traffic, time of day and route. During peak hours or at busy arrival periods, wait times can be longer and larger vehicles may not be available at the rank.

For a simple individual trip where convenience matters more than predictability, a taxi is often sufficient.

Option 1 — Train

The train is the most affordable way to travel between the airport and Kraków Główny railway station. Departures are regular, the journey is short, and no advance booking is required.

This works well if:

  • you are travelling alone
  • your luggage fits what you can carry comfortably
  • your accommodation is close to the main railway station or well-connected by public transport
  • you are familiar with navigating an unfamiliar city after arrival

The train does not take you directly to a hotel, apartment or office address. After arriving at Kraków Główny, you will still need to continue on foot, by tram or by taxi. For passengers with heavy luggage, children or a tight schedule, this adds a step that may not be worth the saving.
